Lorsque l'on optimise ou prépare un moteur, il arrive que la pompe à essence d'origine soit dépassée par les évènements et n'arrive plus à débiter suffisamment de carburant. Les conséquences peuvent être désastreuses, avec dans le pire des cas une casse moteur suite à du cliquetis trop important (mélange pauvre, surchauffe).

Notez bien qu'en elle-même, une pompe à essence gros débit n'augmente pas la puissance de votre véhicule. Elle permet de remplacer une pompe d'origine fatiguée ou insuffisante, répond à un besoin accru en débit d'essence pour les applications avec de fortes pressions de turbo, des injecteurs plus gros, ou autres modifications.
